A practical dinner-planning guide

Plan a week of dinners for two.

Start with the week you actually have: which nights you will cook, how much time you want to spend, and what is already in your kitchen.

1. Pick dinners that fit your evenings.

Choose simpler meals for busy nights. A bowl, a pasta dinner, or tacos can give your plan variety without needing a different pantry for every meal.

2. Check your pantry before shopping.

Look for ingredients you can use in more than one dinner. Check that you have enough; a nearly empty bag of rice may still need a place on the grocery list.

3. Combine the ingredient amounts.

Add quantities across the week, then check available package sizes. Recipe costs describe the ingredients used; buying full packages at a store can cost more.

4. Keep the plan flexible.

Swap a dinner when your schedule changes, and update your list before shopping. Review ingredient labels and any dietary needs when choosing products.

Put the plan together.

DailyPlate’s free planner lets you select household size, vegetarian or mixed meals, cooking time and a weekly dinner budget. It builds seven dinners and a combined grocery list.
